"She has more, you know"
When the weather was nicer, I was walking to pick up Abigail after school each day and then letting the girls play at the park for an hour or so before we went home to do homework. One day I was sitting on the park bench with Eddie's Mom (I think that is her name) and Madelyn was crawling around the bench. Eddie, one of Abigail's classmates, came over to talk to his mom and she pointed to Madelyn and said, "Look at Abigail's baby sister. Isn't she cute?" Eddie responds, "She has a lot more, you know."
Sisters
When I had my first baby, I'll be honest, I wanted a girl. Of course, I would have been happy with a boy, but what I really wanted was a girl. You see, on the Finucane side of the family, everyone had boys. Lots and lots of boys. There are only a few girls. So upon finding out we were pregnant, everyone said we would have a boy.
But I wanted to defy the odds. I was thinking "princesses," "pink," and "Mother of the Bride." Rather than find out for sure by checking out the ultrasound pictures, we decided to be surprised, but after hearing various wive's tales, we had ourselves convinced it would be a girl. So as not to jinx it, my mother-in-law gave us all green things for Christmas. Then, when I fell down, my mother-in-law decided it would be a boy (apparently falling down while pregnant means you're having a boy). Then I fell again, so I negated the first fall, right? My mother-in-law was happy again. Anyway, on July 7, 2004 exactly two weeks before her due date, we welcomed our first daughter into our family.
When I got pregnant with my second baby, I wanted another girl. My Abigail needed a sister. So it was with joy that we welcomed Elena Joy into the family on May 8, 2006.
Why stop there? We kept adding on sisters; now there are four.
The number one question people ask me is: Are you going to try for your boy?
No, I'm happy with girls.
